She was born Clarisa Phillips to my great grandparents; James Matthew Phillips and Mary Elizabeth McDermott in Ingram, Ohio. My grandmother Anna M. Lanigan was her sister. Other children born were John, Mary (Mame), and Henry Matthew Phillips. Clara has one child buried in Cuba Cemetery of Monroe County Iowa, who died as a child; Evelina. (1906-1907) Other children of Clara and James Edward Clark were; Elizabeth (Lizzie) 1901, Harry Edward 1904, and Lenora Juanita 1914.

Clara E. Harlan, 97, of Good Samaritan Center died at 10:20 April 3 at St. Joseph Hospital. She was born Feb. 8, 1882, in Ingrams, Ohio to Matthew and Elizabeth McDermott Phillips. She was a member of St. Patrick Catholic Church. She married James E. Clark in 1900 in Ottumwa. He died Jan. 5, 1918. She married Robert Harlan in July 1920. He died in 1937. Survivors: a son, Harry M. Clark of Ottumwa; a daughter, Lenora Collett of Ottumwa; and 17 grandchildren and several great and great-great grandchildren. Services: 9:00 Friday at St. Patrick Catholic Church where a mass of the resurrection will be celebrated by the Rev. Paul C. Hart. Burial Shaul Cemetery. Rosary 6:30 Thursday at Johnson Funeral Chapel. Pallbearers: Michael, Jerry and Harold Clark Jr., Elmo Collett, David Cullinan, and Clark York.
