Rev. David A. Joslin, 74, of Conway went to be with the Lord on September 10, 2011. He was born March 10, 1937.
A native of Van Buren (Crawford County), Rev. Joslin is a son of the late Rev. Joel Arthur and Clara Flossie Jones Joslin. Rev. Joslin was licensed to preach at age 19 while working as a telegrapher for the Santa Fe Railroad on an Indian reservation near Albuquerque, New Mexico. He was ordained to preach in 1957. Rev. Joslin graduated in 1960 from Free Will Baptist College in Nashville, Tenn., then attended Arkansas College in Batesville. He was Executive Director of the Arkansas Free Will Baptist State Association for 30 years after pastoring 13 years in Arkansas and Tennessee.
Rev. Joslin spent 43 years of his 49-year ministry in Arkansas, pastoring six churches and helping establish two others. He served on numerous Free Will Baptist Boards including the Christian Education Board, and the General Board, the Historical Commission, and 18 years on the Executive Committee of the National Association of Free Will Baptists. Rev. Joslin founded the Ministers' Benevolent Association for Arkansas Free Will Baptists, worked to create the guidelines for the Acts1:8 Plan for missionary support and other denominational programs. He oversaw the publications of "The Fifty-year Record," a brief historical of the national association, and he collaborated with a group of writers in 1976 to publish "History of Free Will Baptist State Association." He also wrote adult Sunday School curriculum and prepared various manuscripts for publication in "Contact," the Free Will Baptist national monthly magazine. He also edited "The Vision," a monthly publication focusing on events and people among the 220 Arkansas Free Will Baptist churches for 30 years.
Rev. Joslin is survived by his wife of 53 years, Mary Kay Kelley Joslin; a son, David A. Joslin, Jr. and wife Patricia of Laurel, Maryland; a daughter, Kelli Joslin Cypert and husband Steve of Sheridan; five grandchildren, Ashley Joslin Bethea of Conway, Mitch Joslin and Paige Joslin of Laurel, Maryland, and Tom Cypert and Kristen Cypert of Sheridan; and one great grandchild, David Bethea of Conway; five sisters, Reba Cohn of Philadelphia, PA, Betty Joslin of Van Buren, Kathrine Woolery of California, Anna Henson of Fort Smith, and Rachel Warner of Van Buren; and a whole host of nieces and nephews. He is preceded in death by two brothers, Amos Joslin and Frank Joslin, and a sister, Lola Osborne.
Funeral services will be conducted Monday, 3 p.m., September 12, 2011, at the Roller-McNutt Funeral Home Chapel in Conway. Visitation will be held Monday, 2 p.m., September 12, at the funeral home. Interment will follow at Mt. Bethel Cemetery in Rosebud.
