A. SPENCER COLE

Amos Spencer Cole, widely know Scioto County farmer, was found dead Sunday morning at his home at 1408 Franklin Ave. He was 94.

Mr. Cole had been apparently in good health and he had visited the county fair at Lucasville last week.

A heart attack was believed to have caused death sometime Friday night. Mr. Cole lived alone and a neighbor found his body Sunday in the bathroom of the residence.

For years he had operated a farm off Galena Pk.

He was born Oct. 19, 1857, a son of Capt. Amos B. Cole and Mrs. Martha Eliza Orme Cole. The family home was on the old Chillicothe Pk. north of Portsmouth.

Mr. Cole and his wife, the former Mary Jane (Mollie) Fritts, resided for a time at 827 Second St. Later they resided at Sinton and Second Sts. and after the 1937 flood moved to the Franklin Ave. address.

Mrs. Cole passed away in 1941. Mr. Cole, who was the last surviving member of his family, leaves two daughters, Mrs. Margaret E. Simpson of Long Island and Mrs. Ida Bernice Prentis of Lancaster, Pa.; two grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.

Years ago Mr. Cole was among the leading advocates of prohibition here. He was a member of the old Sixth Street Methodist Church and later transferred his membership to Bigelow Methodist Church.

Funeral services were to be held at 2 p.m. today at Daehler Funeral Home. Rev. Paul Tropf was to officiate, with burial in Greenlawn Cemetery.
