Born at Lindenwerder, Posen, Germany. Parents were Gottfried and Florentine Meyer. Rudolph immigrated to the United States as a young man in 1868. He first settled in Marshall County, Il. and then went to Adams County, NE. in 1873 where he homesteaded. The Meyer family cemetery was founded by Rudolph on land he homesteaded. He married Paulina Summerfield in Marshall County, IL, on Feb. 2, 1871. They had one dauther, Augusta Florentine. After Pauline's death in 1881, Rudolph married Theda Wederman on May 15, 1882. They had four children - Paul, Sophie, Minnie and Emma. According to his obituary, Rudolph was highly esteemed among his German friends and neighbors. The town of Hayland was originally named Meyersville in his honor. The name later had to be changed because there was already a Meyersville on the same railroad system. Hayland/Meryersville now consists only of a grain elevator and a few houses. The Meyer cemetery is located directly across the road to the north of the Hayland Elevator.
