VIRGINIA BEACH - Charles Louis Barco, 52, retired Coast Guardsman, of 539 24th St., Virginia Beach, died Friday at 6 a.m. in a hospital here after a short illness.

A lifelong resident of Virginia Beach, he was the son of Joseph W. Barco and the late Mrs. Nancy Owens Barco. After 26 years in the Coast Guard, he was retired in 1951 with rank of chief boatswain's mate. Since then he had been employed at Fort Story.

He was a member of the First Methodist Church at Elizabeth City, N.C., and of Virginia Beach Lodge 274, AF & AM.

Surviving besides his father, are his wife, Mrs. Edna Scott Barco; one daughter, Miss Nancy August Barco; four sisters, Mrs. Charlie Hooper, Mrs. Roy Hughes, Mrs. Haward G. Leatherwood and Mrs. Frank Lash; four brothers, Clarence O. Barco, Arthur J. Barco, Joseph M. Barco and Benjamin F. Barco, all of Virginia Beach.

The body was taken to the Maestas Funeral home, Virginia Beach. Funeral services will be conducted Sunday at 3 p.m. at the Virginia Beach Methodist Church by the Rev. C. O. Kidd, pastor. Burial will be in Eastern Shore Chapel Cemetery.
