She came to Kansas with her parents and settled in Smith County and, later, in Logan County. She was the oldest of 7 brothers and sisters. In her letters to my great grandmother, she mentions three sisters; Em and Etta and a little sister, Lotta Evaline, born July 30, 1888. She attended Normal school in Smith County and taught school in New Lebanon (or Lebanon) from 1887 to 1889.

She married Wm. R. Sherman Allen (Bob) on Sept 1, 1889. Her fourth child, Vernie E., was born on August 24, 1902 in a sod house at Inavale, Nebraska. She must have returned to Smith Center, as Vernies obituary indicates that his parents moved to Colorado from Smith Center, Kansas in 1910 and homesteaded southwest of Eckley in Yuma Co.

Lizzie had 5 children
Millie E. Allen born 1893 died 1926
Wiley P Allen born 1896 died 1979
Winnie Wm. Allen born 1899
Vernie E. Allen born 1902 died 1982
Dovie E. Allen born 1910

Her husband died in 1914 and Lizzie was left with a 360 acre farm and 5 children. She increased her land (farming & pasture) to over 2000 acres. This information was received in letters from her daughter, Dovie, in the 1980's

Lizzie never remarried and died in in Brush, Morgan Co, Colorado, in 1952. Her children knew her as a strict diciplinarian, which was needed on a ranch of that size. They were thrilled to receive the letters and be introduced to the different side of their mother.
