Died-at the residence of her husband, in Buckhorn township, on the 25th day of October 1877 in the 61st year of her age. Mrs. Elizabeth Dean, wife of John Dean.
The subject of this memoir was born in Keele, Staffordshire, England in the year of 1817. She was the daughter of Thomas and Martha Peak and was married to John Dean. Sept 23d, 1844 . Came to America in the year 1850 and located at Griggsville, Pike County where she resided two years. She then moved to Wisconsin where she lived 8 years after which she returned to Illinois where she remained until her death.
Mrs. Dean was born and raised in the Episcoplian church; was well versed in the scriptures and although situated remote from her church, she ever remembered its teachings and lived in the hope of finding a better world beyond the grave. During her sickness, which was long and extremely painful, she was never heard to murmer or complain but bore her sufferings with christian fortitude, looking to God the author and finisher of her faith, and when her husband and children gathered around her, she admonished them to meet her in heaven. She was very charitable, often giving to the poor more than she was able. She had hosts of friends and all spoke of her in the highest terms. She was buried in the cemetery at Perry, on the 27th last, Rev Dunlap conducting the funeral service. She leaves a husband and one daughter and three sons and six grandchildren to mourn her loss. By her death her husband has lost a fond and loving wife; her children has lost a kind indulgent mother and society one of its best members.
