Joseph C. "Joe" Karlin, 79, of Hays, died Sunday, May 1, 2011, at Hays Medical Center.
He was born March 19, 1932, in Catharine, to Paul P. and Frances Schmidt Karlin. He graduated from Hays High School in 1951.
He married Thelma Staab on Oct. 6, 1953, in St. Catherine Church.
Mr. Karlin worked in the finance business for more than 30 years. He was a veteran of the U.S. Navy.
In addition to his wife, survivors include three sons, Thomas Karlin of Colby, Lawrence Karlin of Garden City, and Paul P. Karlin of Hays; three daughters, Jeaninne Kaberlein, Coleen Shields and Susan Taylor, all of Hays; two sisters, Frances Arnhold of Grand Junction, Colo., and Mary Agnes Norwood of Leavenworth; 14 grandchildren; and 10 great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents; a son, Joseph W. Karlin; two brothers, Fidelis and Paul Karlin; and four sisters, Celestina Meis, Freda Lang, Severina Walters and Beatrice Brungardt.
Funeral was at St. Joseph's Catholic Church in Hays. Military graveside service was at St. Joseph's Cemetery.
