Laura Abigail Allyn, 97, of Warren Center, Pa passed away on Wednesday, March 2, 2011 in Aurora, Colorado. Laura was born on April 9, 1913 in West Warren, Pa a daughter of the late Jessie and Frances (Dewing) Brainard. She attended school in Warren Center until the 11th grade and then boarded with families to graduate from Towanda High School in 1929. Following high school, Laura entered the Mansfield Teachers College and graduated in 1931. She was a school teacher in East Towanda until she married Merton Allyn in 1934. She lived with her loving daughter and companion, Iva, for many years, caring for her until her death. For many years, Laura worked in the Warren Center Elementary School cafeteria, always enjoying the children and encouraging them to further their education. She was a member of Warren Center United Methodist Church; enjoyed fellowship with the Warren Center Senior Citizens and was much beloved in her community. Laura is survived by her son and daughter-in-law Elwyn and Ellie Allyn, whom she resided with in Colorado; her grandchildren: Laurie Allyn, Joseph Allyn, Deborah (Allyn) Cameron, Rebecca Allyn; great-grandchildren: Lindsay, Brandi, Wendy and Nate Cameron and Abigail, Zachary and Anthony Allyn; her sister Margaret Pitcher; sisters-in-law: Gennevive Arey and Minnie Brainard; numerous nieces and nephews who offered Laura much loving care and support when she was in Warren Center. Laura was predeceased by her husband Merton Allyn in1966; daughter Iva Allyn in1992; sisters, Beatrice Oakley and Theresa Rockwell; brother, Albert Brainard. Funeral services and a celebration of Laura's life will be held on Tuesday, March 8th at 11 am at the Sutfin Funeral Chapel, 273 S. Main St., Nichols. Interment will follow in the Warren Center Cemetery. A period of visitation and time of sharing memories will be held on Monday from 4 to 7 pm at the Sutfin Funeral Chapel.
