He was born on October 20, 1922 in Warren Center, a son of the late Jesse A. and Frances (Dewing) Brainard. He attended school in Warren Center and was a graduate of LeRaysville High School. Following graduation Ab attended the Williamsport Technical School. He was a veteran of the United States Army Infantry, and proudly served his country during World War II and Korea. Ab was a recipient of the Purple Heart, Bronze and Silver Star medals. On August 27, 1946 in Apalachin, N.Y., he married Minnie Hillis. Ab was a retired employee of IBM Endicott following 40 years of service. He was a member of the Warren Center United Methodist Church, a long time member of the Warren Center Fire Department and he actively participated with the Northeast Bradford Memorial Post 6824. Ab enjoyed hunting, fishing, 4-wheeling and attending his grandson's baseball games. Although his greatest enjoyment was being surrounded by his family and friends.
Ab is survived by his loving and devoted wife of 57 years: Minnie (Hillis) Brainard; a daughter Marjorie Carr of Apalachin; his son and daughter-in-law: Robert and Pat Brainard of Apalachin; his special grandchildren: Cheryl and her husband Kevin Sirwatka of Jamestown, N.Y.; Douglas Carr of Garner, N.C.; Daniel and Andrew Brainard of Apalachin; great grandchildren: Courtney, Abby and Paige Sirwatka. His sisters: Margaret Pitcher, Laura Allyn and Theresa Rockwell. Several nieces, nephews, great nieces and great nephews also survive. Ab was predeceased by his parents Jesse A. and Frances Brainard and a sister Beatrice Oakley.
A time of remembering the special gift Albert was to all of us will be held on Sunday, March 7, at 2 p.m. at the Sutfin Funeral Chapel, 273 S. Main St., Nichols with Rev. Brad Marple, officiating. Interment will follow in the Warren Center Cemetery where full military honors will be accorded by the Northeast Bradford Memorial Post 6824. A period of visitation and sharing memories will be held on Saturday, March 6, 2004 from 2 to 5 p.m. at the Sutfin Funeral Chapel.
