Born in Morschheim, the 4th child of Karl Dietrich Zahn (1805-1873) & Anne Margarethe Angst (1807-1859 in Rhineland), Sophia arrived in New York with her father and 9 mo. old daughter Maria on S. S. New York on 24 Jun 1869.
They joined other members of the family who had come earlier to northern Illinois. She married a man named Braun after arriving, probably in Chicago, but died shortly after in Lake Co. IL of 'consumption.'
Researchers have not been able to locate her marriage record (may have burned in a church fire) nor what happened to her daughter, Maria, as of 2/07.
