Funeral services will be held Saturday, October 28, 2006 at a 10:30 a.m. Mass of Christian Burial in St. Peter Roman Catholic Church in Carencro for Mrs. Alcee Fontenot, age 83, the former Wilda Prejean, who passed away Wednesday, October 25, 2006 at 3:50 p.m. at Our Lady of Lourdes Regional Medical Center in Lafayette.
Interment will be in St. Peter Catholic Cemetery in Carencro. Reader for the service will be Geraldine Stelly and giftbearers will be Keily Daigle, Renee Seaux, and Stewart Daigle.
Musical selections will be provided by Valerie Andrus. The songs will be Amazing Grace (French), Just A Closer Walk With Thee (French), Wind Beneath My Wings, One Bread One Body, and On Eagles Wings.
Mrs. Fontenot was a native of Opelousas and a resident of Lafayette for most of her life. She was a retired custodian at Ossun Elementary School with over ten years of service. Previously in her early years, Mrs. Fontenot was a certified welder in New Orleans. She was a parishioner of Sts. Peter and Paul Roman Catholic Church in Scott.
Survivors include her husband of 60 years, Alcee Fontenot of Lafayette; two daughters, Gloria Seaux and her husband, Patrick, of Scott, and Eva Lamb and her husband, Michael, of Lafayette; six grandchildren, Troy Trahan, Barton Fontenot, Brennan Daigle and his wife, Gina, Stewart Daigle, Korey Lamb, and Renee Seaux; four great grandchildren, Dylan Fontenot, Dustin Fontenot, Bradon Fontenot, and Keily Daigle; and one sister, Louana Elkins of New Orleans.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Albert Prejean and the former Roberta LaBauve; three brothers, Alonzo Prejean, Lawrence Prejean, and Martin Prejean; and by three sisters, Yola P. Richard, Lula Mae P. Babineaux, and Pat P. Smith.
Pallbearers will be Troy Trahan, Bart Fontenot, Brennan Daigle, Stewart Daigle, Patrick Seaux and Korey Lamb. Honorary pallbearer will be Michael Lamb.
Melancon Funeral Home, Evangeline Memorial Gardens Chapel, 4117 N. University Ave., Carencro was in charge of arrangements.
