Ada was the daughter of Uriah II Hand Cresse and Mary Ann (Holmes) Cresse. She is a descendant of Arthur Cresse one of the earliest settlers in Cape May. She was born in the house her great-grandfather, Anthony Cresse, built in 1806 out of logs. Her grandfather, Uriah Hand Cresse, rebuilt it using local stone. The house still stands on Cresse Lane in Erma. She had 8 brothers and 3 sisters. She married Claude Young and they had 4 sons.
