" North Carolina Land Grant, #401, issued in 1787 and proven in 1789 640 acres. The land lay on the north side of Clinch River, extending to the top of Newman's Ridge and into Lee County, Virginia. The land was in Sullivan Co, NC; later Hawkins then Hancock Counties, Tennessee. It was signed by J. Glasgow for Gov. 1) County: MONTGOMERY CO - State: VIRGINIA
Spouse 1) Milly Jones"

Please Note: As can be seen from the DAR record above, Joseph's surname is spelled WALLEN. At different times in history, the name of Wallen is recorded with variations such as Wallin and Walling. The passenger list of the ship "Anne," dated Jul 1623, lists Ralph's surname as "Wallen". To avoid confusion, my ancestors descending from Ralph (1590-1633), will be named as same.
