Millard Cates, Jr. 76, of Weatherford, Texas, died Wednesday, March 17, 1999, at his residence in Weatherford.

Services were held in the Trinity Lutheran Church in Weatherford with Rev. Kenneth Watson, pastor, officiating. Burial followed in the St. Luke Lutheran Cemetery in Olney, Texas, under the direction of Lunn Funeral Home.

He and Lillian Kunkel were married September 3, 1944, in Denver, Colorado.

He was a charter member of the Trinity Lutheran Church for 40 years. He retired from General Dynamics after 33 years as a technical buyer and was a member of the Management Club. He was also a farmer. He was a resident of Weatherford, Texas, since 1958, moving from Fort Worth, Texas.

He was preceded in death by one son, Timothy Dean Cates in 1950; three brothers, Forest, Glen, and James Cates, and one sister, Sylvia Kusel.

Survivors include his wife: Lillian Cates of Weatherford, Texas; one brother, Dale Cates of Smith Center, Kansas; two sisters, Juanita Palmer of Smith Center, Kansas, Laura Elizabeth Hamilton and her husband, Boyd, of Cawker City, Kansas; two brothers-in-law, Leonard Kunkel and his wife Hilda, of Seymour, Texas, Edgar V. Kunkel and his wife Edalene, of Corpus Christi, Texas; one sister-in-law, Lu Kunkel of Louisville, Kentucky; a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, neighbors, and friends.
