Nancy Jane DANIEL was born Nov 15, 1835 in Jefferson Co., AL. Her parents, Josiah Lafayette DANIEL, Sr. and Dicey WOOD-DANIEL of Union Co., GA had gone there to attend a DANIEL family funeral.

There is a big difference between DANIEL and DANIELS throughout time as they are two distinct families but we research both spellings so as to include census taker errors and transcription errors. There isn't much difference between AKENS and AKINS or AIKENS or AIKINS which were used interchangeably over time. ADKINS or ATKINS, on the other hand is entirely different and never used, except for a typo, by this family.

Nancy Jane's mtDNA is now on file with Family Tree and Mitosearch. If anyone is in need of proving their lineage to her female line, please let me know.

Nancy married John W. AKINS [Akens] on Mar 6, 1853 in Union Co., GA. He was grandson of John AKINS, Sr. who died in 1863 Union Co. and s/o Ezekiel AKINS/AKENS of Talking Rock, Pickens Co., GA which was at the time still considered Gilmer Co., GA.

John and Nancy left Union Co. at the beginning of the Civil War travelling in a covered wagon because John didn't want to fight. They went to Alabama, Tennessee and Illinios visiting mostly DANIEL family members and they had several children along the way before returning to Winston Co., AL by 1870 census where they were farming with other folks from Union Co., GA. By 1880, there were back in Union Co., GA with their extended family as Nancy's father died there in 1878. John and Nancy had 12 children together.

John W. AKINS and Nancy settled in Hall Co., GA where he owned numerous parcels of land. Nancy died in 1905 and John remarried to Eva FRICKS-MEDLIN of Banks Co., GA. They didn't have any children together.

John died Sept 15, 1911 according to Hall Co., GA Probate Court records which I do have a copy. His son, William Newton AKINS, served as Executor. For some reason Eva didn't follow thru on getting John's death date engraved on his tombstone. Eva died in DeKalb Co., GA while residing in Banks Co., GA on Dec 4, 1930 per her Death Certificate.
