Monday November 10, 1997

Gorden Elza Allen, 70, Greenwood, died Saturday at his home. He was the father of a Shelbyville woman.
Born on August 15, 1927, in Marion County, he was the son of Cline and Leona (Smith) Allen. On January 19, 1984, he married Shirlene Shockley, who survives.
Mr. Allen owned and operated Allen Excavating Co., Indianapolis, before retiring this year. He had also been employed at Eli Lily & Co., Indianapolis, for 19 years as a laboratory technician. He was a 1945 graduate of Howe High School.
Mr. Allen served in the Philippines with the U.S. Navy during World War II.
Other survivors include a daughter, Sherrie Lynn Griggs, Shelbyville; a son, Gregg E. Allen, Greenwood; two step-daughters, Pattie Walker, Martinsville, and Kathy Kretchek, Indianapolis; two stepsons Robert Rynard Jr., Greensburg, and Tony Rynard, San Diego, California; a sister, Ida Bottema Puckett, Carmel; three grandchildren; 10 step-grandchildren; and five step great-grandchildren.
Services will be at 1 p.m. Wednesday at Vandivier-Tudor Bargersville Chapel with the Rev. Kenneth Arnold officiating.
Burial will be in Forest Lawn Memorial Gardens, Greenwood. Graveside military rites will be conducted by Franklin American Legion Post No. 205.
