From the "Gray Family History": "He was a man of sterling worth of character and left his impress upon the life and history of year. He struggled heroically to secure for himself a liberal education, and graduated from the University of Vermont August of 1843. He was ordained pastor of the Congregational Church at Coventry in 1844 and served the church faithfully for nearly 14 years. He was the first native born citizen chosen to represent Coventry in the legislature, and for 9 years was superintendent of schools.
He was the father of 3 children by his second wife,Emeline: Sarah, James and William."
