Henry Englehard immigrated from Germany to the United States at a young age with his parents and two brothers, Joseph Englehard and Paul Englehard. They settled in Wisconsin. He married Maria Bertzel in Oak Grove, Pierce County, Wisconsin on February 19, 1871. They moved from Wisconsin to Missouri, to Nebraska, and finally Eastern Washington where they settled north of Davenport at Sandyflat near an area known as Egypt, Washington. They had thirteen children, nine of whom reached adulthood.
