Joy Sawyer Gamble, 86, of Memphis, homemaker, died Thursday at her home. Services will be at 1 p.m. Saturday at St. Luke's United Methodist Church with entombment in Memorial Park Mausoleum. Memphis Funeral Home Poplar Chapel has charge. She was a member of United Methodist Women, King's Daughter Peace Circle and PEO. Mrs. Gamble, the widow of Vernon F. Gamble, leaves a daughter, Valerie Gamble Cowan, and two sisters, Mary Alice Acuff and Maxine Pafford, all of Memphis; a brother, James Sawyer of Heber Springs, Ark., and two grandchildren. The family requests that any memorials be sent to St. Luke's United Methodist Church. (Published in The Commercial Appeal 2/18/2005)
