A graduate of Biglerville High School and Central Penn College, Harrisburg, he majored in business administration. Formerly of Biglerville, he worked for the C.H. Musselman Co.; was a food broker and retired in 1987 from his family's company, Slaybaugh Associates, Inc.
A corporal in the 136th Quartermaster Truck Co., U.S. Army, Mr. Slaybaugh served in the battles of Normandy, Northern France, Rhineland, Ardennes and Central Europe during World War II and was awarded the Purple Heart.
He was a member of Wayne Presbyterian Church; Good Samaritan Lodge 336; Free & Accepted Masons, Gettysburg; the Harrisburg Consistory; Gettysburg Lodge 1045, Elks U.S.A.; King of Prussia Post 7878; and Veterans of Foreign Wars.
He is survived by his wife, Janet M. (Garretson) Slaybaugh, two sons, Craig W. Slaybaugh of Collegeville, and David E. Slaybaugh of Malvern; two brothers, Gene Starry of New Oxford and Dean Starry of York; two sisters, Joyce Snyder of New Oxford and Carolyn Turner of New York City; four grandchildren.
Interment was in Centerview Cemetery.
