From a newspaper: Poliomyelitis Claims Perry Girl as Victim
Ramona Clementine VanBebber, 12, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Ray VanBebber, 1404 Seventh street, died at 9:30 a.m. Sunday in Crippled Children’s hospital at Oklahoma City after a week’s illness of poliomyelitis. She would have been 13 years old September 9.
Services have been set for 2 p.m. Tuesday at the Newton funeral home, with Rev. James V. Gray, pastor of the First Baptist church, officiating. Burial will be in Grace Hill cemetery. Due to the nature of her illness, local health authorities said services will be private, as is the case in all deaths resulting from the dread polio disease.
Ramona was an eighth grade student of the Perry school She was born in this city on September 9, 1933, and had resided with her parents here all her life. She became ill a week ago Saturday and was taken to Cripple Children’s hospital after it was determined that her illness was polio. Her condition had been considered critical for the last several days. Death came as a result of circulatory collapse and anterior poliomyelitis, physicians at the Oklahoma City hospital said.
Surviving in addition to the parents are two sisters, Wynona and Karen Sue, both of the home, and her grandmother, Mrs Ila VanBebber of Perry.
