Salvatore Alferi February 18, 1923 - February 18, 2009 Colchester- Salvatore J. Alferi, 86, husband of Theresa (Pasqualini) Alferi of 2 Meadow Drive, Colchester, died on his birthday at Yale New Haven Hospital, Wednesday, with his loving family by his side. Born in New London on February 18, 1923, he was the son of the late Giacomo and Annunziata (Sylvester) Alferi. During World War II he served his country with the U.S. Army and was honorably discharged with the rank of Corporal. He had worked as a welder at Electric Boat in Groton for 25 years, and then as a welder pipefitter for 17 years with Local #305. A member of the Italian American War Veterans, he was also a member of the Norwich Lodge of Elks. On September 7, 1946 at St. Patrick Church in Norwich, he was united in marriage to Theresa (Pasqualini) Alferi who survives. Along with his wife he is survived by one son, Thomas F. Alferi of Colchester; three daughters, Nancy Hanna of Hawaii, Christine Tamborra and her husband Patrick of Salem, and Tammy Alferi of Manchester. Six grandchildren, Thomas J. and Anna Alferi, Eric Flower, Tracy Tamborra, Julie Tamborra Murphy, and Marybeth Tamborra. Four great grandchildren, Cassandra Flower and Teresa, Myles and Amelia Tamborra Walton. One sister Frances LoPresto of Pawcatuck and several nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by a brother Frank Alferi and a sister Isabella Alferi. Visitation 6 to 8 p.m. Sunday at the Labenski Funeral Home, 107 Boswell Ave., Norwich, where the funeral will assemble on Monday at 9 a.m. and proceed to a Mass of Christian Burial at the Cathedral of St. Patrick at 10 a.m. Interment to follow with military honors in St. Joseph Cemetery, Norwich. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in his memory to St. Patrick Cathedral, 211 Broadway, Norwich, CT. 06360.
