Gladys Gordon of Arthur City went to be with her Lord and Savior Jesus Christ Tuesday, March 10, 2009, at Paris Nursing and Rehab Center.

Services are scheduled at 10:30 a.m. Friday, March 13, at Powderly Baptist Church. Burial follows in Forest Chapel Cemetery.

The family receives friends from 6:30 to 7:30 p.m. Thursday at Fry-Gibbs Funeral Home.

She was born March 13, 1916, in Powderly, a daughter of William Dean Spalding and Edna Jane Ledford Spalding. She attended school at Powderly. She married John Edward Gordon on Aug. 16, 1938, at Powderly. She was a homemaker and loved gardening, cooking and attending church. She was a charter member of Arthur City Baptist Church.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Edward Gordon; a son, Bill Edward Gordon; granddaughters, Yolanda Myers and Rebecca Temple; brothers, John William Spalding and Robert Lee Spalding; sisters, Jewel Matthews, May Rayburn, Faye Hervey and Opal Ruthardt; and a stepmother, Joycie Spalding.

She is survived by two daughters, Faye and husband, Terry Temple, and Gail and husband, Ken D. Barber; grandchildren, Pam McManus, Mike Gordon, Vance Temple, Cassandra Carrion, Clint Barber, Eric Barber, Patrick Barber and Anna Felts; 19 great-grandchildren; two great-great-grandchildren; sister, Joy Fletcher; sister-in-law, Fern Sain.

Pallbearers will be Dean Matthews, Robert Spalding, Johnny Shawhart, James Hervey, Frank Spalding and Joe Gordon.

If desired, memorials other than flowers may be made to the Arthur City Baptist Church.
