Son of William and Matilda (Bonner) Lewis. Stepson of Emma Hershberger. Husband of Janet Watson. Father of Elizabeth Campbell, May Ball, Hazel Ball, Verna Godfrey, Harry, Howard, Clair, Clyde, Dean, Ralph and Gilbert Lewis. Brother of Lucy and Mary Garman. Step-brother of Grant Hershberger, Annie Weaver, Ora Dunmire, George and Merrill Smith.


Altoona Mirror, Friday, 8 January 1937:

"William H. Lewis, a native of Hollidaysburg, died suddenly at his home in Amsbry at 12:45 yesterday morning of a heart attack. He was born on May 8, 1871, a son of William and Matilda (Bonner) Lewis. Surviving are his wife, Mrs. Janet (Watson) Lewis; eleven sons and daughters, Mrs. Elizabeth Campbell of Dean, Mrs. May Ball of Colver, Harry of Amsbry, Howard of Dysart, Clair Lewis and Mrs. Hazel Ball of Colver, Clyde Lewis and Mrs. Verna Godfrey of Amsbry, Dean, Ralph and Gilbert, all at home; twenty-two grandchildren and one sister, Mrs. Mary Garman of Blandburg. Funeral services will be conducted in the Methodist church at Amsbry on Sunday afternoon at 2 o'clock. Interment will be made in the Union cemetery."
