When Nancy Ann "Tensie" Steele was born on November 8, 1873, in Tellico Plains, Monroe, Tennessee, her father, William "Will" Steele, was 28 and her mother, Martha Ann "Eliza" Wilmoth, was 28. She married James Alexander "Jim" Vance. They left TN in 1894, shortly after the birth of their daughter, Ethel, on Aug 16. Laughing all the way through the story, my great Aunt Ethel loved to tell that they loaded her up in a wagon in the "hot August sun" stating that they must have not wanted her too much and hoped she did not make it. My great grandparents raised four loving siblings who raised loving families who taught to be active in their churches and to contribute to their communities in many ways. She had two sons, Rowland Steele "Zeb" Vance and John Lawrence "Jack" Vance , and two daughters, my grandmother, Lorena Maye Vance and Ethel Lee Vance. She died on April 28, 1949, in Weatherford, Parker, Texas, at the age of 75. She was buried in Garner, Texas in the Bethesda Cemetery. She was my great grandmother by Cheryl Walters Parr.
