Philemon Wilkes Morris was born 2 Jan 1832 NC and died 24 Apr 1914 Chickalah, Yell, AR, the son of Rueben A. Morris and Mary A. Houston. Philemon served in the Cival War. Co A
4 NC Infantry. He inlisted in Iredell Co., NC and served from 1861-1864. He married Elizabeth Emelyn Dillon, daughter of Elam and Mary M. Bodenhammer Dillon. Philemon and Emma had four children two being born in Olin, Iredell, NC. About 1870 Philemon and his family headed to Arkansas with twin girls Sarah Ann and Mary Jane. In Tennessee Emma had their third child Rueben Lee Morris 27 Jan 1871. 1876 they were found in Ripley County, MO. According to Mary Morris Campbell, granddaughter of Philemon and Emma they had a son,Preston died and is buried in the Boston Mountains. I have not been able to find him on the census or the family on the 1870 census. On the 1880 US Census Dardanelle Twp., Yell, AR Philemon and his three children are living next to his widowed sister, Margaret McConnell.

Philemon married Sonora Melviney Jones 19 Feb 1882 Yell Co., AR. Sornora Melviney Jones is the daughter of James Sanner Jones and Elizabeth Jones. Philemon and Sonora Melviney had three children:

Joseph Hall Morris married Maud Etta Kester

Philemon drew his Civil War pension and is recorded at the Danville Court House, Danville, Yell, AR
