Carl H. Pease, 76, father of Monroe lady, dies Sunday
Carl H. Pease, 76, of Portland, a former clerk treasurer of the city of Portland, and father of Mrs. Arthur (Joan) Zurcher of Monroe, died Sunday afternoon at the Clinic hospital in Bluffton after an illness of six months.
Mr. Pease had served as an accountant in the office of the Jay county auditor before his recent retirement because of poor health.
He was born April 29, 1896, in Adams county (Kirkland township), the son of Joseph V. and Mary V. Hocker-Pease. He was married April 21, 1918 to Ruth N. Corle, who died June 29, 1959.
Surviving are three sons, Carl H. Pease, Jr., Praise View, Ill.; Arden L. Pease, route 1, Wolcottville, and Jack Pease, Columbia City; four daughters, Mrs. William (Jeane) Eastwood, Columbus, O.; Mrs. John (Helen) LeMaster, Jr., route 4, Portland; Mrs. Arthur (Joan) Zurcher, Monroe, and Mrs. David (Jill) Garringer, Jr., Fort Wayne; two brothers, Walter Pease, Bluffton and Lester Pease, Lucerne Valley, Calif.; 33 grandchildren and 32 great-grandchildren. A number of relatives reside in Adams county.
Funeral services will be conducted at 1:30 p.m. Wednesday at the Williamson & Spencer funeral home, Portland, with Rev. Donald Potter, minister of the Salamonia cemetery. Friends may call at eh funeral home after 1 p.m. today. Memorials may be made to the Jay county cancer fund.
