Memorial services will be at 11 a.m. Friday in Lake Tanglewood Community Church with Dr. Roger Hubbard, pastor, officiating. Private burial will be in Llano Cemetery by Brooks Funeral Directors.
Mrs. Abbott was born Nov. 9, 1920, in Hansford County to Ethel and William Hale. She grew up on the family farm near Goodwell, Okla., graduated from Goodwell High School and attended Panhandle A&M College, where she met her husband, John. They were married May 31, 1941. They moved to Amarillo in 1952 and to Lake Tanglewood in 1975.
Mrs. Abbott was a member of Lake Tanglewood Community Church. She was involved in many club activities at Lake Tanglewood and was a volunteer at the Lake Tanglewood Library. Her hobbies were reading, painting, sewing and square dancing, and she had a lifelong love of music.
She was preceded in death by her husband; her parents; three brothers, Aaron, Ernest and Ralph; and three sisters, Pat Dixon, Thelma Garrett and Jo Byerley.
Survivors include a son, John Abbott and wife Karen of Amarillo; a daughter, Kathy Sargent of Austin; three grandchildren, Ashley Abbott Mezger and husband Russell of Houston, Drew Abbott of New York City and Elizabeth Sargent Hudgins and husband Ty of Austin; three brothers, William "Bud" Hale and wife Rosalee and Ted Hale and wife Mary, all of Amarillo, and Mose Hale and wife Ina of Wimberley; two sisters, Mary Phelps and husband Jack of Weatherford, Okla., and Fern Webster and husband Jack of Darrouzett; and three generations of nieces and nephews.
