Ralph Benton "Monty" Hale, 76, lifelong area resident, died Friday evening, Dec. 16, 1994 at the Advance Care West in Amarillo, Texas.

The son of William Benton and Ethel Viola (French) Hale, he was born in Hansford County, Texas on April 3, 1918. He was raised in the Goodwell area where he attended school. He graduated from Oklahoma Panhandle State University with a bachelor of science degree.

Ralph and Erma Lorene Weikle Elliott were united in marriage on July 10, 1979 at Richardson, Texas. Hale was a postal clerk with the Guymon Post Office, retiring in 1971.

He was a veteran of World War II, serving in the United States Navy for 11 years. He was a member of the Victory Memorial United Methodist Church in Guymon and a lifetime member of the Adobe Walls V.F.W., Post 1789 of Borger, Texas.

He is preceded in death by his parents; one brother, Ernest Clifford Hale; and two sisters, Wilma Jo Byerley and Thelma Irene Garrett.

Survivors include his wife, Erma, of the home; two step-sons, Charles Eugene Ivie and his wife, Leigh of Lakeside Ariz. and David Mark Ivie and his wife, Chin of San Antonio, Texas; three step-daughters, Rev. Mildred Lorene and husband, Rev. Phillip Ovalle of West Valley, Utah, Mary Rosett and husband, Sidney Robinson of Pampa, Texas, Shirley Ruth and Loraine Williams of San Antonio, Texas; four brother, Aaron Raymond (Coach) Hale of Springfield, Colo., William Washington (Bud) Hale of Dumas, Texas, Mose Von Hale of Woodland, Texas and Ted Lee Hale of Amarillo, Texas; four sisters, Hattie Bernice (Pat) Dixon of Colorado Springs, Colo., Viola Toy Abbott of Amarillo, Mary Glenna Phelps of Weatherford and Lefern Wray Webster of Darrouzette, Texas; 14 step-grandchildren and seven step-great granchildren; one brother-in-law, Ike Byerley of Amarillo; one sister-in-law, Beatrice Hale of Guymon and one uncle, Marlin Hale of Hardesty.

Funeral services will be conducted Thurs. afternoon, Dec. 20, 2 p.m. from the Victory Memorial United Methodist Church with Rev. Mike Chaffin, pastor officiating. Interment will be in Elmhurst Cemetery under the direction of the Bunch-Roberts Funeral Home of Guymon.
