Friends were shocked this week to learn of the sudden death of Mrs. Joseph Groves, who died late Thursday evening, at her home on the DeKalb road.
Mrs. Groves personality was expressive of many admirable attributes of character, which won for her a wide circle of friends. Naturally of a retiring disposition, yet her sweet, unassuming manner marked her a lady of refinement and influence, whose presence will be sadly missed by her immediate family and friends.
Mary Ellen Mallory was born on Oct. 13, 1854, at Freeport, daughter of Isaac and Ellen Mallory. She was married Oct. 31, 1878, to Wesley H. Gochenour at Freeport. To this union were born four children, Arthur B. Gochenour, Mrs. Jessie Swanlund and Mrs. Ruth Yeager, all of Sycamore, and Mrs. Grace Morgan of Chicago.
Her early married life was spent in Freeport, she later moving to Sycamore. Mr. Gochenour died in DeKalb, March 27, 1918. In August, 1925, Mrs. Gochenour and Joseph Groves were married. Since that time she has resided at Electric Park corners.
She was an active member of the Methodist Episcopal church until ill health kept her closely confined. She also was a member of the Eastern Star at DeKalb, and of the Sycamore Woman's club.
Funeral services will be held at 2:30 o'clock Sunday afternoon, the Rev. Charles H. Draper officiating.
