Robert Emmert Klingsmith
Robert Emmert Klingsmith, 73, of Route #1, Novinger, Missouri, passed away Friday evening, (October 25, 1996) at the Kirksville Osteopathic Medical Center in Kirksville, Missouri.
The son of Emmert and Minnie Loe Klingsmith he was born February 6, 1923 in Yarrow, Missouri. On March 8, 1947 in Troy, Kansas he was united in marriage to Ruby Mae Shumaker who survives.
Also surviving are one son and daughter-in-law, Ronald Edwin and Carol Klingsmith of Marceline, Missouri; one daughter and son-in-law, Sharen and Robert Jones of Kirksville, Missouri; two sisters, Ina Mae Ownbey and Nola Winslow both of Kirksville, Missouri; three grandchildren, Suzy Jones Coy, Shuan Robert Klingsmith and Darcy Leigh Klingsmith and three great-grandchildren, Zachary Christopher Coy, Justin Robert Klingsmith and Isaac Wesley Coy.
He was preceded in death by his parents.
Mr. Klingsmith was a life-long resident of Adair County and received his education in the Mt. Zion rural school. He served in the United States Army during World War II in the artillery division from January 1943 to May of 1946 in Rhineland and Central Europe. He lived in Yarrow, Missouri until 1960 when he then moved to rural Novinger, Missouri where he had lived for the past thirty-six years. He was employed with Florshiem Shoe Factory in Kirksville for twenty-three years until retiring in 1973 due to ill health.
Robert was a member of the Yarrow Methodist Church in Yarrow, Missouri.
Funeral services were held Monday afternoon (October 28, 1996) at the Travis-Noe Funeral Home in Kirksville, Missouri. Chaplain Dennis Smith officiated the service. Tape selections “Take My Hand Precious Lord”, “Sweet By and By” and “Go Rest High On That Mountain” were played during the service.
Burial was held in the Yarrow Cemetery in Yarrow, Missouri.
Pallbearers were Keith Simler, Randy Lumsden, Phillip Klingsmith, Ron C. Klingsmith, Bill Holt and Preston Ellsworth.
Honorary bearers were Don Atchley, Howard Sullivan, Joe Zeigler, Duane Seibold, Raymond Buck and Buck Peavler.
