"John Delvin was born June 18th, 1834, died August 1st, 1886, aged 52 years, 1 month and 13 days. Was married to Sarah Hullibarger October 29th, 1856, and enlisted in the service of his country in 1862 in Company D 190th Indiana Volunteer, Captain A.S. Purivance, and served three years. The deceased had been a resident of this place but a short time before the symptoms of a fatal malady made their appearance. He had made many friends here who join with his family in mourning his death . The G.A.R. and Sons of Veterans attended the funeral in a body. Services by Rev. Cummins at the U.B. church at 2 p.m. Burial at the new cemetery." [Editor's note: tombstone reads 130th Ind Inf]

"John Delvin of North Manchester, brother of J.C. Delvin, of this city, died Sunday afternoon at four o'clock. The funeral occurred Monday and was conducted by the Post of which he was a member. Deceased was younger than James. Death was caused by a complication of diseases."
