Pellerino Frank "Wedio" Ambrosino, 80, of Allenport, Mount Union, R.D. 2, Box 629, died at appoximately 6..45 p.m., Jan. 8, 2001, at the Altoona Hospital. Born Jan. 5, 1921, in Kistler, Mifflin County, he was the son of the late Felucius and Teresina (Gragnano) Ambrosino.
He was united in marriage to Sonja Suders May 26, 1989. Mrs, Ambrosino survives at home. He is survived by two stepsons, Darold E. Boone of Warrenton, Va. and Karl D. Boone of Huntsville, Ala. There are five stepgrandchildren. He is also survived by three sisters, Antoinette Griffith, Angeline Blazevich and Mary Heidel, all of Mount Union. He was preceded in death by the following siblings; Anella "Nellie" Imperioli, Rose DiFerdinando, Concetta, Frank and Carmen Ambrosino.
Mr. Ambrosino was a member of St. Catherine's Roman
Catholic Church, Mount Union, where he held a 4th Degree as a member of the Knights of Columbus, St. Catherine of Sienna Council No. 6106, Mount Union. He was a lifetime member of the Blue Juniata Veterans of Foreign Wars Post No. 5754, Mount Union, the Simpson-Hunt Post No. 107, Mount Union, and a member of the Newton-Wayne Lions Club. He was a 1941 graduate of Mount Union High School.
Mr. Ambrosino entered the U.S. Marine Corps June 11, 1941. He served in the Asiatic-Pacific Theatre during World War II and received the following medals and commendations: Good Conduct Medal, American Defense Service Medal, American Campaign Medal, Asiatic-Pacific Campaign Medal, WWII Victory Medal, Presidential Unit Commendation Ribbon and Sharpshooter and Marksmenship Rifle Badges. During his military service, he participated in the assault and capture of the Gilbert Islands and of Okinama Shima, Ryukyu Islands. He attained the rank of sergeant at the completion of his service April 12 1947.
He retired from the State Corrrectional Institution Huntingdon, as a corrections officer in 1986, with 37 years of service.
A funeral Mass will be conducted at 11 a.m. Friday, Jan. 12, at St. Catherine's Roman Catholic Church, Mount Union, with Father Dennis Boggs officiating.
Interment will be made in the Garden of Honor, in the Mount Union Cemetery.
