Ann K. Homolash, 87, formerly of 20 E. Halley St., Mount Union, died at 7:43 p.m. Thursday, May 1, 2014, at Hearthside Nursing and Rehabilitation Center, State College. She had been in failing health.

Born Aug. 15, 1926, in Mount Union, she was the daughter of the late John and Anna (Mishock) Homolash.

Miss Homolash is survived by many nieces and nephews.


She was preceded in death by a sister, Mary Calupca, and two brothers, Joseph and John Homolash. She was the last surviving member of her immediate family.

Miss Homolash was a member of St. Catherine of Siena Catholic Church, Mount Union, and was a member and past president of the Catholic Daughters.

She was a member of the Simpson-Hunt American Legion Post 107 Auxiliary, Mount Union, and served for many years on the election board in the Mount Union Third Ward.

Miss Homolash was a 1944 graduate of Mount Union High School.

Following graduation, she went to Washington, D.C., and worked for several years in a government office. Miss Homolash then returned home and worked as a supervisor at the former L. Greif Bros. Manufacturing, Mount Union, until her retirement. Following her retirement, she worked in the office of St. Catherine of Siena Catholic Church, Mount Union.

Miss Homolash enjoyed shopping, crocheting and flowers. She will be remembered by her family and friends for the rum cakes she baked during the holidays for gifts. She was also an avid swimmer and made daily trips to the American Legion Country Club pool in the warmer months.

A funeral Mass will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday, May 7, at St. Catherine’s Roman Catholic Church, Mount Union, with the Rev. Father Lubomir Strecok officiating. Committal will follow in the Holy Cross Cemetery, Huntingdon.
