BARNES, Sarah E., Mrs. (L.D.) of Thorndale. Age 83. Died 2/12/1974 in Johns Community Hospital, Taylor, after a brief illness. Services were held (Thursday) in the First Baptist Church, Thorndale. Burial in Thorndale City Cemetery beside her husband who died 12/29/1969. Rev. Byron Reeves, pastor of the church and Dr. Clyde R. Majors, "keeping a long-time appointment", officiated. Mrs. Lucy Schraie (Sahraie), a niece of Austin, gave the eulogy.

Sarah was BORN 12/14/1891 to the late Giles S. and Lucy Peebles Summerlin. Lived in Thorndale for the past 76 years. Married Lyngle D. Barnes (Sr.) on 9/8/1912. "Proverbs 31:10-31 which so aptly expresses the life of this beloved woman." Longtime member of First Baptist, Thorndale.

SURVIVORS: Son, Lyngle D. Barnes, Jr. of Thorndale; 4 sisters, Mrs. H.H. Camp, Rt.1, Thorndale, Mrs. W.H.K. Spillar, Mrs. Eugene Caughron and Mrs. Gladys Masters, all of Austin; brother, Smith Summerlin of Del Rio; 2 grandsons, Dudley Barnes of Arlington and Joe Brent Barnes of Mesquite; 2 great-grandaughters, Julie Ann Barnes & Kelly Lynn Barnes.
