Jack L. Boughner

BOUGHNER, Jack L.
Of Kalamazoo
The Greatest Generation lost another member when Jack Leonard Boughner died on Sunday, April 2, 2006. He was 81. Jack was born in Saginaw, MI, on July 26, 1924. He is survived by his wife of 58 years, Marjorie Maniel (also from Saginaw); 2 daughters, Judy Hiers of Niles, MI, and Jan Myers of St. Paul, MN; a son, Gary Boughner of St. Paul, MN; a son-in-law, Rich Heirs; 3 grandchildren, Erin Myers of Minneapolis, MN, Nathan Hiers of Norman, OK, and Jennifer Hiers of Niles, MI; and a sister, Dorothy Balderstone of Saginaw, MI. Jack was a veteran of two wars. During World War II he braved combat missions as a B-24 bomber pilot. He was recalled to serve in the Korean War as a military policeman. In 1987 he retired after 27 years in the insurance industry. Befitting his intelligence, Jack was a voracious reader. He possessed a keen sense of humor. Once surveying his Florida home demolished by a tornado, he deadpanned: "The carpeting will have to be cleaned." Jack was also an avid left-handed golfer. He was a member of St. John Bosco Catholic Church in Mattawan, 23830 Front St., where family and friends will celebrate his passing from life into Life with a Memorial Mass at 10:00 a.m. on Wednesday, April 5, 2006. A private burial in Ft. Custer National Cemetery in Battle Creek will follow. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to Hospice Care of Southwest Michigan. Jack will be missed. Arrangements by Langeland Family Funeral Homes, Westside Chapel, 3926 South 9th St.
