Edward was born to Edward Samuel Smith and Adelaide Davis.
He married Irene Bradley on 21 Aug 1896 at Funk's Lake, Sanpete Co., Utah. They had nine children - Carlysle De Veaux, Nettie Mariah, Guilda Gwendlyn, Daniel Adolph, Demaris Arsenith, Annie Elzora, George Benjamin, Irene Almeda, and Arthur Edward.
He was a coal miner, and when his son Carlysle was killed in the explosion of the coal mine in Standardville, Utah in 1930, Edward found his son's body.
Edward died of stomach cancer.
