CLEMENTS, March 13.--Resident of Clements section 74 years, Mrs. Mary Ellen Athearn, 85, member of a pioneer Clements family, died at the home of her daughter, Mrs. Louise Gordon, yesterday, following a lengthy illness.
Daughter of Joseph Putnam, pioneer Clements rancher, Mrs. Athearn came to California from Massachusetts around Cape Horn in the early "fifties." Besides her daughter, Mrs. Athearn is survived by two sons, Frank and William Athearn of Clements; two brothers, Edwin Putnam of Clements, William Putnam of Modesto and Mrs. Jennie Donahea of Berkeley.

MRS ATHEARN SERVICES HELD
Funeral services for May Ellen Athearn, 85, widow of Lucien Athearn and a resident of Clements section for 74 years, were held yesterday in Wallace Chapel, Rev. Reuben Henry Sink, pastor emeritus of First Congregational church officiating. Sacred selections were sung by Victor Orr, accompanied by Mrs. Vida Baird at the organ.
Interment was in Clements Cemetery. Pallbearers were H.S. Magee, F. G. McKain, W.S. Montgomery, Fritz Ahearn, Bert Gaskill and H.W. Spurr.
