Civil War Union Army Officer. He was mustered in as a 2nd Lieutenant in Company M, 6th Pennsylvania Volunteer Cavalry on November 20, 1862. On February 8, 1864 he was promoted to 1st Lieutenant of Company K. Wounded at the Battle of the Wilderness on May 7, 1864, he was advanced to Captain and commander of Company L on September 12, 1864, filling the vacancy caused by the promotion of Charles L. Leiper to Major. Charles B. Coxe was then himself promoted to Major on March 22, 1865. He served in that duty until the end of the war, and was honorably mustered out on June 17, 1865.
