Evelyn Woodruff Walter, 86, has been released to be with her husband, Daniel after a 12 year struggle with Alzheimer's disease. She died Tuesday, March 11, 2003 at Crestwood Care Center in Ogden, Utah.

She was born October 29, 1916 at Braman, Oklahoma, the oldest of five children of William Lyle and Bessie Wise Woodruff.

Evelyn married Daniel Debbs Walter in Wellston, Oklahoma on December 15, 1935. The marriage was later solemnized in the Salt Lake Temple on June 18, 1957.

Raised in Oklahoma, Evelyn was an honors student in school, and studied business at Edmond State Teachers College in Edmond, where she met her husband. After marriage the family moved to Kansas, Colorado, New Mexico, Wyoming, and Utah, where Daniel pursued auto body repair, and Evelyn often was employed as a bookkeeper. They moved to Ogden in 1969.

Evelyn, her busband, and son were proselyted by full time missionaries and joined the LDS Church in 1955, while living in Cheyenne, Wyoming. They served faithfully in numerous church callings and as temple workders. She was a member of the Ogden Taylor Canyon Ward and actively pursued genealogical research.

She was preceded in death by a brother, Peyton Woodruff, in 1982, and by her husband, in 1996.

Surviving are her son and daughter-in-law, Roger Kenneth and Zora Walter of Ogden. Also surving are a sister, Wanda Woodruff Boesch and brother, Linday Woodruff in Oklahoma, and a brother Glen Woodruff in Tennessee, and their families.

The family expresses their appreciation to faithful visiting and home teachers, friends in her ward, the loving staff at Crestwood Care Center, those who helped her at the Gardens Assisted Living facility, and others who eased her burdens during the past several years.

Funeral services will be held Thursday, March 13, 2003 at 2 p.m. at Larkin and Sons Mortuary, 496 24th Street in Ogden. Friends may call at the mortuary Thursday from 1 to 1:45 p.m. Interment will be held immediately after the funeral at the Ogden City Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers the family recommends donations in memory of Evelyn Walter to the Primary Children's Hospital or other worthy charities.
