I've been researching my families for approximately 30 years. Currently, I'm trying to scan & share a large collection of old family photographs and documents that have come to me from various relatives, mostly my late grandmother.
As I scan & prepare the photographs, I'm trying to post as many as possible to findagrave for others to enjoy. Especially the very old ones. Some that are labeled are not of known family connections so I'm also researching the names in an attempt to identify them.
One that I am very proud of is Jesse Elton McEwen, buried at Palms Woodland Cemetery, Miami-Dade Co FL. It took a fair amount of research to figure out that he is probably not related, but simply a neighbor of an ancestor in Carroll Co GA. I've created a memorial for him with the information I collected. Please visit his site and show him some love.
Another memorial that I'm very proud of is for my ancestor, William Francis Marion Nobles, who died as a prisoner of war at Camp Douglas IL. His final resting place is Oak Woods Cemetery, Chicago, Cook Co IL. Please visit him also.
Surnames I'm connected to include: Ashworth, Barnett, Black, Burks, Cates, Clore, Crow, Dickson, Dunson, Gilbert, Hendrix, Hulsey, Leathers, Lowe, Lyle, McBrayer, McGlathery, Mobley, Mote/Motte, Nobles, Pate, Parr, Pinson, Reid, Sanders, Sizemore, Stanford, Steele, Stephens, Tomme, Vining, Waldrop, Williams, and others.
Places I'm particularly connected to include: Laurens Co SC, Henry & Clayton Co GA, Carroll & Haralson Co GA, and Cullman Co AL. | |

 | RE: William E Lyle According to our family historian, Eugene Lyle, who has written several books regarding the Lyle Family, and quoting his remarks on page 267 of "History and Mysteries of the Lyle Family".."1900 Census Ellenwood, Clayton Co., Ga lists another William e Lyle, born April 1875 in GA and his parents were also born in GA. He was married to Rosa B, born Nov 1875 in Ga and her parents were also born in GA. Living with them was Ann, born April 1818 in Ga and her parents were born in GA. Ann is designated as Grandmother. William E Lyle, born 1875 should not be confused with William E Lyle born 1878 living with his mother Sarah during the census. They were cousins.
My WE Lyle, William Edward Lyle, was married to Annie Laura Cates and born Aug 8, 1878.His Father was John M Lyle and his mother was Amy Emily Merryman.
We have a Lyle family reunion the Saturday after labor day each year. It will be at The Rock Baptist Church, Hwy 42, Rex, GA. Stop by and meet this group of Lyles and you may find our just how your WE is related to our WE. | | | Kelly Guess

His children were Thelma, William E., Ennis, Jessie, Jim, Zack, Mary, Ava, Evelyn. Please check again, I believe you have the wrong William E Lyle. | | | Maryanne A. McCracken Highley

 | RE: Jane Barnett Stephens Hi Debbie,
Nice to hear from you. Jane was the second wife of Elijah Bluford Stephens who was the Pastor of Salem Church, Piedmont, Calhoun/Cleburne Co., AL. during the middle of the 19th Century. He was born October 31, 1817 in Franklin County, GA to Elijah Stephens (b. Aug 30, 1786 in Wilkes Co., NC) and Lucy Flanigan. The elder Elijah was the tenth son of Joshua Stephens (b. 1735 VA) and Elizabeth Dyer. The Elder Elijah lived his later years in Haralson County, Georiga which was adjacent to Calhoun County, AL.
Back to Elijah Bluford. His first wife was Emilla Jones Ayres. They had 5 children. The firs was a son, Jonathan Dyer Stephens born June 09, 1839 and the last being another son Elijah John Stephens born October 13, 1845. Emillia died one year later on November 6, 1846. Elijah Bluford then married Jane Barnett on June 11, 1848 and they had 6 children including their first, a son, William Alexander Stephens, born August 05, 1849.
As Elijah Bluford and his second wife Jane were raising chidren of thier own, his children from his first wife were raised by their grandfather the Elder Elijah who was living in Haralson County, GA. Elijah John grew up with a keen interest in history and committed to memory family history stories told to him by his grandfater Elijah. His grandfather lived died in 1870 when Elijah John was 25 years old.
Jonathan Dyer, Elijah John and their younger half brother William Alexander served in the Confederate Army during the Civil War, all were captured, incarcerated, parolled and survived the war.
In 1898 Elijah John decided to document what he knew about his family anestry and also get each of his brothers to write about their life and Civil War experience in a Journal or Ledger book of his.
If you have not seen copies of his journal, I would be happy to send you both scanned images of the original as well as typed transcripts.
Elijah John was a second cousin of my gg-grandfather Calaway Stephens who died in the Civil War.

So, my grandmother (Mary Josephine Mitchell) was a niece to Martha Sylvania Mitchell.
How are you related to Francis Massey Burks; and also to Martha Sylvania Mitchell?
