Theresa M. Zappia Bergman 92, Indianapolis passed away February 8, 2009. She was born February 28, 1916 in Indianapolis to the late Domenico and Maria (Contanzarite) Zappia. Born Elizabeth Margaret Zappia, everyone knew her as Theresa which was her given name at Baptism. She was a very giving person who would do anything for anybody and would never want anything in return. She was a Red Cross volunteer during WWII and took girls to dance at the USO with soldiers based here in Indiana. This is how she met her husband of 58 years, Samuel Bergman. They were married April 16, 1945 and he preceded her in death October 12, 2003. She later worked at Wasson's Dept. Store downtown and with Indianapolis Public Schools in safety for 25 years during which time she was honored by the Mayor. Other survivors include her sons Bill (Diana) Bergman and Kevin (Jennifer) Bergman, both of Indianapolis; daughters Becky (Jack) McDonald, Nancy (Larry) Harvey, Jenny (Dale) Hendricks, all of Indianapolis; eight grandchildren; 22 great grandchildren; brother Joe Zappia of Miami, FL and sister Ann Glascow of Joliet, IL. She was also preceded in death by her son Joseph Bergman; daughter Judy Bergman and brothers Tony, Frank, Carl, and Dominic Zappia.
