Charles Cocklin was the son of David Martin Cocklin and Anna Maria Fink Cocklin. His maternal grandparents were Sebastian Fink and Anna Mary Hock Fink. Charles was a harness maker.

Charles first wife was Margaret Reid. He then married Anna Meyers.

In 1880 Charles was living with his wife Anna Meyers in Fremont, Sandusky County, Ohio. They were married in about 1878. Anna was born on 27 September 1860 in Indiana. Her parents were born in Germany. Anna died on 20 June 1953 in Union County, Ohio. She was cremated at the Sunset Crematory in Columbus, Ohio.

In 1900 Charles and Anna were living in Cleveland, Ohio. The federal census record indicates that Anna was the mother of 9 children and 7 were living. In 1910 Charles and Anna were living at 737 Broadway in Cleveland. The federal census records indicates that Anna was the mother of 10 children of 7 were living. In 1920 Charles and Anna were living at 422 South Chestnut Street, in Marysville, Union County, Ohio.
