The 1870 and 1880 census seems to indicate the children of Joel Gibson and his first wife, Martha J Davis Gibson, were Elizabeth Jane, John Thomas, Samuel, Sarah Cordelia, Matilda J, Willis F and possibly James S or James T.
James S or James T was only one year old in the 1870 census; therefore, he may have been the child of Martha born shortly before her death (July 29, 1869) or he may have been the child of Amanda born shortly after her marriage (married April 27, 1870) to Joel Gibson.
The children of Joel Gibson and his second wife, Amanda M. Woolbright Gibson, were Minnie, Jefferson, Dora (also called Dorie), Joel and Daniel Newton.
