Sarah Cordelia was the daughter of Joel Elender Gibson and Joel's first wife, Martha J Davis Gibson. Her full siblings were Elizabeth Jane, John Thomas, Samuel, Matilda J, Willis F and possibly James S (or James T). Her half siblings who had the same father, but their mother was Amanda M. Woolbright Gibson, were Minnie, Jefferson, Dora (also called Dorie), Joel and Daniel Newton. Since James was only one year old in the 1870 census, he may have been the child of Martha born shortly before her death or he may have been the child of Amanda born Shortly after her marriage to Joel.
