His name actually was Karl Friedrick Bauer, born in Rielingshausen, Wurttemberg, Germany
Charles came to America in 1847. He married Anna Catharina Schultheis in Poughkeepsie, Dutchess Co, NY on 06 Jan 1850. Charles, Anna and two daughters moved to Aurora in 1854 where Charles carried on a sash and door factory for 18 years. In 1872 he sold his business and engaged in house building and contracting. He built many Aurora buildings including the former Indiana House and the Catholic Church. In 1865 he was elected councilman from the 2nd Ward serving for 18 years. He was a member of Chosen Friends Lodge # 13 I00F, the Druids, Druid Encompments and the Lutheran Church. He was the father of Mary F, Louise Katharine, Theresa, Henriette Caroline, Emilie Louise, Carrie and Charles Ludwig.
Charles died in Aurora from endocarditas he was widowed at the time of his death.
