George was the son of Robert French "Bob" and Bly McCracken Rogers of Rogers Cove in the Upper Crabtree Community of Haywood County, NC. He married Lillian Ross. He had one stepson, Tony Rogers, and two daughters, Alice and April. He loved basketball with a passion, and had collected numerous pictures of basketball teams from across Western North Carolina to publish in a book he was planning, but he died suddenly with a heart attack before the project was completed.
George was proud of his service in the US Navy in WWII, serving mainly in the Pacific.
