She was born to Bower Cliett and Cora Gibson Durham.
A lifelong resident of Colmesneil she had owned and operated her own grocery store for twelve years. She was a faithful member of the Colmesneil Assembly of God Church where her husband, Reverend J. C. Carter had pastored for forty years before his death in May of 1998.
She was survived by her sons and daughters-in-law, Stanley and Mary Carter and Joe and Retha Carter; daughters and sons -in-law, Faye and Charles Riley and Gaye & Larry Brown; brother and sister -in-law, Johnny and Anita Durham; sisters and brothers-in-law, Shirley and Glenn Washburne and Eloise and Dean Madden; ten grandchildren, thirteen great grandchildren and one great -great grandson, Lucas.
