ALMOND was born October 24, 1859, in Galesburg, IL. Mary was born July 22, 1864, in Macomb, IL, the daughter of Daniel B. Clarke and Eliza Ann Parks. Almond and Mary married on August 7, 1882, in Effingham, IL, when she was 17 and Almond was 24.
Almond's family lived in Chalmers in 1870, when he was 10. He became a farm laborer from at least the age of 20, when he worked on a farm in Chalmers, IL, in 1880. He was still in Chalmers and still engaged in farming in 1900, where he rented a home for his family. Mary was then a housewife. By 1910, he owned a home (no mortgage) in Macomb, where he worked in a sewer pipe factory. By 1920, he was employed by the clay bank for Macomb Pottery, and though he still owned a home, it now had a mortgage attached to it. Within two years of that census, he died at the age of 63. Almond died December 10, 1922, in Macomb. Mary died March 2, 1939, also in Macomb.
Almond and Mary Melissa had 13 children, but by the 1910 census, she reported that only 9 are living:
George Franklin Gloyd - 1883-1974
Josephine Gloyd -1895-1952
Bertha Lavisa Gloyd - 1889-1969
Alta Elizabeth Gloyd - 1892-1981
Alvin Monroe Gloyd - 1894 - 1977
Albert Gardner Gloyd - 1897-1972
Orie Elmer Gloyd - 1899 - 1979
Alzina Gloyd - 1902 - 1962
Alvina Gloyd - 1904 - 1904; died at 8 months of age
Helen "Marie" Gloyd - 1909-1995
